Australia
Stamps
Welcome to Our Australia stamp
Page
Stamps were first
issued in Australia in c1913 and run through to the present
day. There are
some nice rare items from
this country. Before 1913 Australia's six states issued their
own stamps, the states
being New South
Wales, Queensland, South Australia,
Tasmania,
Victoria and
Western
Australia.

The first stamps
issued by the Commonwealth of Australia were on January 2nd
1913, and were in a set of 15. The design was a Kangaroo on the
map of Australia, values ranged from 1/2d to £2. The
£2 stamp is now valued at nearly £4,000 in mint condition.
On the 9th of December 1913 Australia issued it's first stamps
with a portrait of George V, during this reign over 150
different stamps were issued, many of these are now avidly
collected including the very popular 5/- Sydney Harbour Bridge
stamp which was issued in
1932.
King George

The best stamps from the reign of
George Vl are from the 1937 to 1949 set which was made up
of 14 stamps with the 10/- and £1 stamps being the
rarist. Later the 1948 to 1956 high value set has again
become quite popular with the set of 7, catalogued at
£120 in mint

Not a lot of rare material from this
period, the only set that stands out is the 1963 to 1965
pre-decimal set with all six stamps showing fine
