The first stamps
issued by the Bahamas were in 1859 and consisted of two penny
red stamps. SG1 is much rarer with a mint price of
£4,750. Most of the stamps of this reign are avidly collected
with many of them catalogued at very high prices,
especially the 1862 stamps with the SG14 4d and SG16 6d Stamp
catalogued at £19,000 each in mint
condition.

Three sets were issued in this period
with the best being the 1902 to 1910 set of 7 stamps. The
£1 green and black SG70 being the hardest to find with a
price tag of £250 in mint condition and an even higher
price of £350 in
used

Nine different sets were issued
between 1912 and 1935, with two nice sets. One
being the 1912 to 1919 set made up of 9 stamps
with the SG89 £1 stamp being the rarist. The other good set is the 1921 to
1937 which has 11 stamps with the 1926 £1 being the
hardest to find catalogued at £170 in mint condition and
£325 in used.

Three good sets came out between 1938 and
1949, the first being the 1938 to 1952 set with 17 stamps
catalogued at £140 for the entire set in mint condition.
The last one being the Tercentenary set of 1948 which has some
very nice designs and seems under priced at £60 for a set
of 16.
